Fender USA / Stratocaster '58

The 1958 Fender Stratocaster had a number of changes, none I personally liked much. First the classic 2-tone sunburst (yellow to dark brown) was changed to a 3-tone finish (yellow to red to dark brown). Three color sunbursts are cute, but I personally enjoy the classic 2-color look better. The other thing that changed was the neck shape. The large backshape neck of the 1954 to 1957 Fender Stratocasters was gone, changed to a thinner more modern style neck shape. Again not my cup of tea. Still, 1958 Fender Stratocasters are very nice guitars.

FENDER / '72 TELECASTER CUSTOM

Fender Telecaster Custom is a model of electric guitar made by Fender. This model should not be confused with the "Fender Custom Telecaster" model manufactured between 1959-1968, which only differs from a standard Telecaster in having a bound body. Ever since the release of the Telecaster Custom the market generally refers to the guitar as the "1972 Custom", indicating the year this model was originally released.

搭載されたハムバッカーによる甘くリッチなサウンドは、G社のそれとは少し違う、メロウさの中にもしっかりとした輪郭を持ったメリハリの利いたサウンドです。また、当時のオリジナルピックアップを開発したのは、他でもないP480(P.A.F.)ピックアップの生みの親、セス・ラバー氏。ギブソンと同等の仕様を提案していたフェンダーに対し、ラバー氏は敢えてサウンドやルックスにフェンダーらしさを残したと言われており、その特徴は現在の当モデルにも引継がれております。

KAWAI / MOON SOULT

A company that is known for its keyboards and pianos once made one of Japan’s most interesting and cool guitars of
all-time: the Kawai Moon Sault. Shaped like a crescent moon, it was loaded with active EMG pickups and was adorned
with green abalone inlays and sparkle finishes. They were made in the early 1980’s, and have been recently
(and pathetically) reintroduced in bolt-on neck form. Kawai also made copies of Alembic guitars of exceptionally high
quality and those are somewhat popular to collectors as well. No model can compare to the popularity of the MoonSault,
though. They are now extremely rare. I search for guitars in Japan 24/7 and haven’t seen one in over 2 years.

ボディには4つのミニSW、P.U.はDimarzio、ペグにはGROVERインペリアルが奢られたとても高いギターであった。人間工学に基づいたデザインは、座っては絶対弾けないが、立ってみるといい具合。サンバースト・カラーも洒落が効いている。　すごく気になっていた。日本を代表する名機である。

Gibson / ES-335

Before 1952 Gibson produced only hollow body guitars, which are prone to feedback when amplified loudly. That year saw the introduction of their first solid body, the Gibson Les Paul, based on Les Paul's experiment, "The Log," which was merely a fence post with a neck, hardware, and pickup attached. By 1958 Gibson was making a few solid body models which had much lower feedback and better sustain, but lacked the darker, warmer tone and unamplified volume of hollow bodies. The ES-335 is an attempt to find a middle ground: a warmer tone than a solid body with almost as little feedback. Though semi-hollow bodies like the ES-335 are essentially a compromise of earlier designs, for the same reason they are extremely flexible as evidenced by the ES-335's popularity in a wide range of music, including blues, jazz, and rock.

ES-335は1958年にギブソン社によって生み出されたモデル。セミアコースティックギターの代名詞として知られる。ボディはホロウ（空洞）ともソ リッドとも異なった構造を持っており、ボディ中央にはセンター・ブロックと呼ばれる木製の板が埋め込まれているが、両サイドは中空でヴァイオリンの 様なfホールが設けられている。ES-335を初めとするセミアコースティックギターの出音は独特の "woody" と形容されるサウンドで、ソリッドギターのそれよりも甘い響きを持っている。しかし同時に、ソリッドギターの特色であるサスティンのあるサウンドやハウリ ングの少なさといった点も持ち合わせている。この柔軟な音色の性質のため、ジャズやロックを含むあらゆる種類のポピュラー音楽でそのサウンドを聴くことが出来る。

Fender USA / Telecaster Telecaster Thinline -1976-

The Fender Telecaster Thinline is an electric guitar made by the Fender company. It is a Telecaster with body cavities. Designed by German luthier Roger Rossmeisl in 1968, it was introduced in 1969 and updated with a pair of Fender Wide Range humbucking pickups, Bullet truss-rod and 3-bolt neck fixing in 1972.

The semi-hollow-body design was originally an attempt to reduce the weight of the solid-body Telecaster guitar, which had gotten ever heavier throughout the 60s due to the dwindling supply of the light ash wood Fender had formerly used. The f-hole and reshaped pickguard are the most apparent visual clues to its construction.

There are now two versions of the Telecaster Thinline. The '69 version has two standard Telecaster pickups and a mahogany body, while the '72 version, based on the Fender Telecaster Deluxe, yields two Fender Wide Range pickups and a solid natural swamp ash body. Both guitars are made in Mexico and Japan as a part of the Classic Series of guitars and basses, followed by higher-end American-made Factory Special Run (FSR) versions from the Fender Custom Shop in 2005.

Rickenbacker / 325C58

Described by John Lennon as his "dream guitar", the 1958 Rickenbacker 325 is one of the most famous guitars of all time. Acquired by Lennon in Hamburg in 1960, the 325 became his #1 instrument for many years to come and is most notably seen in the Beatles' performances on The Ed Sullivan Show.

The Rickenbacker 325C58 is an exact replica of the 1958 model played by Lennon down to the last detail including its gold nameplate and pickguard, gold-on-brown knobs, an elongated jack plate, and Kauffman Vibrola (which he later replaced with a more reliable Bigsby, as seen in photo). The 325C58's three Vintage Single Coil Toaster Top pickups, semi-hollow alder body, alder neck and rosewood fret-board make this guitar a dream to play with a sound to match. Available in a Jetglo (325C58 JG) and Mapleglo (325C58 MG) finish, this guitar is as much beauty to look at as it is to play and much like the 360/12C63 replica Rickenbacker made famous by George Harrison, is a great tribute to monumental moments in music history.

1958年製リッケンバッカー325。ジョン・レノンが、自身の“大切な物リスト”に真っ先に挙げるこのギターは、ファン の間では神格化されていると言っても過言ではありません。現在このギターの実物を日本のミュージアムで実際に見ることが出来ます。この実物と、かつての“ ビンテージ・シリーズ”の325V59と比較して先ず気がつくのは、ボディの厚みの違いでしょう。325V59をはじめて手にした時、当時の他のモデルよ りもかなり厚い印象でしたが、ジョン・レノンの325は更に分厚く、また決定的な違いはボディとネックの材質です。リッケンバッカー社のセールスポイント のひとつは上質なメイプル材を採用していることですが、ジョン・レノンの325はアルダー材を採用していました。また、外からは見えない部分ですが、ボ ディ構造、ボディ内のくりぬき方も違い、ジョン・レノンが所有することになる58年製325が持つファクトリー・スペックを忠実に再現したCシリーズの 325C58は、325V59よりも厚いボディでありながら、圧倒的に軽量に仕上がっています。
